I'm too young to have watched the Ed Sullivan show . . . but when I watch clips I have to admit I'm amazed that he became such a big deal. He doesn't come across as very charismatic. He's certainly not a very handsome devil. He's not particularly funny. How did this guy get to be THE big king maker in pop culture?
