well systemd-boot isn't perfect but it sure as all hell has been far more reliable than GRUB (also I think you can do something with an extended boot thing to have the images on a different partition but I've never really bothered with it)

still, if you don't want me to put my initramfs on the ESP then give me a bootloader that's actually reliable that can load stuff from elsewhere, because grub sure as hell isn't reliable
